Activities & Resources to Support Kindergarten Transition
May 01, 2023For preschoolers ages 4 and 5, this is a very exciting time of year! Many of them are transitioning to kindergarten! Quality early learning programs and early educators plan developmentally and culturally appropriate activities to support preschoolers and their families in preparing for kindergarten.
A number of early childhood agencies, organizations, and programs we highly respect and heavily rely on in the early education profession have provided very useful resources for supporting kindergarten transition. There’s no need to recreate the wheel!
- American Federation of Teachers
- Harvard Family Research Project
- Head Start: Transitions
- National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
- National Center for Learning Disabilities
…Just to name a few!
You should also check out your local public school system’s website for kindergarten transition activities. The resources are limitless!
Remember, our Monthly Lesson Plans include standards-based thematic activities for early learning programs to engage young children, families, staff, and community associates, offering detailed guidance, materials, and strategies to support developmental progression.
Please share ideas you plan to implement to support young children in preparing for that BIG step to kindergarten!
Thank you in advance for spreading your WINGS!
